Rivers and Glaciers
Lahaul’s primary outflows are the Chandra and Bhangra rivers. Major rivers in the Spiti subdivision include the Spiti River. Fuel Stations: District Lahaul&Spiti has only two petrol stations in Tandi (Lahaul valley) and the other in Kaza (Spiti valley), more than 400 kilometres from Shimla. Leh (J & K) is 368 kilometres away from Tandi in the Lahaul valley, the second petrol station after Tandi.

Shopping: Carpets, Kullu shawls, handloom/handicraft ready-made garments in Merino wool, Angora & Pashmina Pulls (grass-made bedroom slippers), Woolen coats, and silver jewellery are all available in Keylong’s fine shops, among other things. Keylong, home to plenty of unique boutiques, is another place where you may find these items. Listed below are the shops where you can purchase the items: A second branch of the Bhaba Pass can be discovered in the Mudd village. Best Time to Visit Spiti Valley
It’s ideal to go to Spiti Valley in September or October if you want to see the vibrant hues of nature, take photos in natural light, or want to avoid the crowds. However, this means that there won’t be any snow. Otherwise, if you’re a fan of seeing snow in the mountains, plan a car trip to Spiti Valley between mid-May and mid-June.
How to Reach?
By Train:
Lahaul&Spiti district’s closest train stations are Joginder Nagar Railway Station (360 kilometres away) and Shimla Railway Station (450kilometerss away) (416 km away). To go to Spiti Valley, you can take a taxi or a bus from here. It is 485 kilometres away from the Kalka Railway Station, which has good connectivity to several Indian cities.
By Bus:
This route can reach Lahaul and Spiti. Two major highways connect the district to the rest of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla to Kaza in the Spiti Valley through ReckongPeo (412 miles, 20 hours) is one route, while Shimla to Keylong in Lahaul follows the same road (375 km, 18 hours). From Manali, the Rohtang Pass and the Kunzum Pass provide access to the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys and the surrounding area. Due to excessive snowfall, this road is closed for most of the year. The best route to spiti – one can reach Spiti from Shimla – all weather accessibility now, but during winter and heavy snow – the road may close for some time if going from Shimla side, from Manali to Spiti – road opens for 5-6 months as of now.
By Air:
It is only a short drive from Kullu’sBhuntar Airport to reach Spiti Valley (245 km away). To get to Lahaul&Spiti Valley from Bhuntar, one must first travel to Manali and take a bus or cab there. Chandigarh International Airport is the closest international airport, located 495 kilometres from Lahaul&Spiti Valley. ReckongPeo and Manali have buses to Kaza, from whence the traveller must catch transport to Kaza.
