“Manali” term stands for Manu (Manu Rishi) + Aali (Home). Manali, also known as the Queen of Himachal Pradesh, is an ancient town located in the Kullu district on the banks of the Beas River at nearly 2050 meters or 6730 ft. Vashist, which is nearby, is another option that will appeal to backpackers and budget travellers.
Best Time to Visit
The spring season (late March to June):
It is a beautiful time to visit. Temperatures range from 10°C to 25°C. It is ideal for enjoying outdoor activities, such as paragliding, trekking, rafting, etc. However, everything is expensive during these months.
It’s apple season (July and August):
Monsoons in Manali can be challenging because the region experiences heavy rainfall. However, because many tourists prefer not to travel during this time, hotel prices tend to fall.
Adventure time (September to January):
It is the best time to ski. Temperatures can drop to -1 °C, so make sure you have woollens to keep warm.
How to Reach?
By Train:
The nearest main railway station is Chandigarh, from which it will take approximately 9 hours by bus or car to reach Manali. Apart from that, the nearest railway station is Ambala and Joginder Nagar, located near Mandi.
By Bus:
Manali is well-connected to major tourist destinations such as Leh, Shimla, Kullu, Dharamshala, and New Delhi via a network of state-run and private buses. In contrast, the self-drive to Manali is also spectacular!
By Air:
Bhuntar, about 50 kilometres away, is the nearest airport to Manali. It has domestic flights to Delhi and Chandigarh. You can book a taxi to Manali from the airport.
